Description
A light, fruity dessert that captures the essence of summer with fresh strawberries and a soft, custardy crumb.

- 1 box white cake mix (plus ingredients on back of box)
- 3 oz. strawberry jello
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 8 oz. cool whip
- 8 oz. cream cheese
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 16 oz. strawberries, sliced (optional for topping)
Instructions
- Prepare cake according to the directions on the back of the box using a 9×13 cake pan. Grease the pan well and line with parchment.
- Remove cake from oven and cool for at least 20 minutes.
- Poke holes in the cake with a fork, covering the whole surface.
- Combine boiling water and jello in a mixing bowl, stirring until dissolved.
- Add cold water and stir to combine.
- Pour jello mixture over cake, ensuring it fills the holes.
- Cover and refrigerate for 3 hours or overnight.
- Combine cool whip, softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla and mix until smooth.
- Spread the mixture over the cooled cake, and layer sliced strawberries on top before serving.
Notes
Chill after adding the topping for cleaner slices. Use fresh strawberries for best results.
