Description
Delightfully tasty oven baked BBQ chicken with a quick and easy homemade barbecue sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 4 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tsp mustard powder
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp fresh black pepper
- 1 cup water
- 1.5 kg / 3 lb chicken thighs (bone in skin on), drumsticks or wings
- Fresh parsley, chives or finely chopped green onions, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200°C/390°F.
- In a ceramic or glass baking dish, mix all sauce ingredients together. Then, mix in the water to create the perfect consistency.
- Add chicken pieces, turning to coat them well in the sauce. Place the chicken skin side down in the dish.
- Bake for 20 minutes before removing it from the oven and turning the chicken over to ensure even cooking. Spoon more sauce over the top to keep it moist.
- Continue baking for an additional 30 minutes; remove and spoon over sauce once more to enhance the flavor.
- Optional: Tilt the pan to skim off excess fat if desired.
- Broil or grill on high. Generously spoon sauce over the chicken again, placing it under the broiler for 2 to 3 minutes to caramelize deliciously. Watch closely during this step to prevent burning!
- Serve the chicken warm, garnished with chopped parsley or green onions for a lovely presentation.
Notes
For extra flavor, marinate the chicken in the sauce for a few hours before cooking. Perfect for gatherings and pairs well with various side dishes.
