Description

A delicious fusion of classic pizza flavors with a juicy burger, perfect for summer gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef or sirloin (90-93% lean)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds, lightly crushed
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/3 cup Primal Kitchen Unsweetened Pizza Sauce
  • 4 mozzarella cheese slices (about 4 ounces)
  • 4 buns or large dinner rolls, toasted
  • Fresh basil leaves for serving
  • Optional toppings: Green leaf lettuce, thinly sliced red onions, fresh tomato slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill to high heat (450-475F) for indirect cooking or medium-high heat (400F) for direct grilling.
  2. Combine the ground beef with Italian seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder, fennel seeds, salt, and black pepper in a mixing bowl, mixing thoroughly to infuse the flavors.
  3. Divide the mixture into four equal portions, then flatten each into a burger patty, making a slight indentation in the center to help with even cooking.
  4. Place the patties on the grill and cook for approximately 4 minutes on one side. Flip them over and grill for an additional 2-3 minutes to achieve your desired doneness.
  5. Add mozzarella cheese slices to the patties during the last minute of cooking, allowing them to melt beautifully.
  6. Warm the pizza sauce on the grill or stove until heated through.
  7. Assemble your burgers by placing a patty on each toasted bun, topping it with a generous spoonful of pizza sauce and fresh basil leaves. Serve immediately.

Notes

Customize with your favorite toppings and consider pairing with crispy fries or a fresh salad.
