- 2 pounds Russet Potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 4 cloves Garlic, freshly minced
- 1 cup Heavy Cream
- 4 tablespoons Butter
- 1 cup Sharp Cheddar Cheese, shredded
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1 tablespoon Fresh Thyme (optional)
- 1 cup Panko Breadcrumbs
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and butter a 9×13 baking dish lightly.
- Peel and thinly slice the Russet potatoes about 1/8 inch thick.
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over low heat, then add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute.
- Add the heavy cream, salt, pepper, and fresh thyme, and warm through without boiling.
- Arrange a single layer of potato slices in the prepared dish, pour some cream mixture over them, and sprinkle some cheddar. Repeat layering until all ingredients are used.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
- Remove the foil, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top, and bake uncovered for an additional 10 to 15 minutes until golden and tender.
- Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, try using different types of cheese or incorporating roasted garlic.
