- 2½ pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
- 1½ cups barbecue sauce (your favorite brand)
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Place the chicken in the bottom of your slow cooker.
- Combine barbecue sauce, yellow mustard, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper in a small bowl. Stir until blended.
- Pour the sauce over the chicken, ensuring each piece is coated.
- Cover and cook on low for 6–8 hours or high for 3–4 hours, until the chicken is tender and easily shredded.
- Remove and shred the chicken with two forks. Return the shredded chicken to the sauce and stir.
- Serve immediately on buns, in tacos, over rice, or as desired.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use chicken thighs. Consider adding apple slices for sweetness during cooking or experimenting with different barbecue sauces.
