- 2½ pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
- 1½ cups barbecue sauce
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Place the chicken in the bottom of your slow cooker.
- Combine barbecue sauce, mustard, brown sugar, vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Stir until blended.
- Pour the sauce over the chicken, ensuring each piece is coated.
- Cover and cook on low for 6–8 hours or high for 3–4 hours until tender.
- Remove the chicken and shred with forks, then return to the sauce and stir.
- Serve on buns, in tacos, or over rice, optionally topping with extra barbecue sauce.
Notes
For a richer flavor, consider using chicken thighs. Add apple slices during cooking for sweetness.
