Description

These sugar cookies are soft, chewy, and irresistibly sweet, perfect for holidays, parties, or cozy family nights.


Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and white sugar until smooth and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Beat in the egg, followed by the vanilla and almond extract until incorporated.
  5. Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed.
  6. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, then roll in granulated sugar until well coated.
  7. Place on ungreased cookie sheets, spacing them about 1 1/2 inches apart to allow for spreading.
  8. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the edges turn a light golden color.
  9. Let the cookies cool on wire racks for a few minutes before transferring them to a plate.

Notes

Chill the dough if time permits to prevent excessive spreading during baking.
