Description
These sugar cookies are soft, chewy, and irresistibly sweet, perfect for holidays, parties, or cozy family nights.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar for rolling
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and white sugar until smooth and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Beat in the egg, followed by the vanilla and almond extract until incorporated.
- Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed.
- Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, then roll in granulated sugar until well coated.
- Place on ungreased cookie sheets, spacing them about 1 1/2 inches apart to allow for spreading.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the edges turn a light golden color.
- Let the cookies cool on wire racks for a few minutes before transferring them to a plate.
Notes
Chill the dough if time permits to prevent excessive spreading during baking.
