Description

Deliciously fluffy cinnamon rolls made using sourdough discard, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sourdough starter (discard)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and cinnamon.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the sourdough starter, milk, melted butter, and egg until smooth.
  3. Gradually combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients and knead until a soft dough forms.
  4. Let the dough rise for about an hour until doubled in size.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ½-inch thick and spread softened cream cheese evenly on top.
  6. Sprinkle with additional sugar and cinnamon if desired.
  7. Roll the dough tightly and slice into 12 equal pieces.
  8. Place the sliced rolls in a greased baking dish and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  11. While baking, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract to make frosting.
  12. Drizzle frosting over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

These rolls can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated overnight before baking.
