Instructions
- Grease the slow cooker insert with nonstick spray or soft butter.
- Cut the stale bread into 1-inch cubes and layer them in the slow cooker insert, sprinkling chopped pecans if using.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until blended.
- Pour the custard mixture over the layered bread and pecans, ensuring all pieces are coated.
- Let sit for a few hours, preferably covering it to absorb the custard.
- Cut the butter into small pieces and mix the brown sugar with the extra cinnamon in a separate bowl.
- Sprinkle the brown sugar mixture and butter pieces on top before cooking.
- Cover and cook on HIGH for 2 to 2.5 hours or on LOW for 3 to 4 hours until set and risen.
- Serve warm topped with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit.
