Description

A comforting bowl of creamy Cajun sausage pasta that combines the warmth of Southern cooking with the ease of a one-pot meal.


Ingredients

  • 12 oz smoked sausage
  • 8 oz farfalle pasta (bowtie)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Cajun seasoning (to taste)
  • Fresh parsley or green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the smoked sausage and brown for about 4-5 minutes. Remove it from the pot and set aside.
  3. In the same pot, sauté the diced onion for 2-3 minutes until soft, and then add the minced garlic. Cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Return the sausage to the pot, then add the farfalle pasta, diced tomatoes (including the juice), chicken broth, Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cover and cook for 12-14 minutes, or until the pasta is tender and has absorbed the flavors.
  6. Stir in the heavy cream and shredded cheese until melted and smooth. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley or sliced green onions for a pop of color.

Notes

For lighter options, use turkey or chicken sausage, and consider substituting heavy cream with half-and-half or a dairy-free alternative.
