Description

A cozy classic Swiss steak recipe featuring tender meat simmered in a rich tomato-based sauce, perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds round steak, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Dredge the pieces of steak in flour, shaking off the excess.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the steak pieces on both sides, then remove and set aside.
  3. Add onion and garlic to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Return the steak to the skillet, pour in beef broth, add diced tomatoes, green bell pepper, salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir gently.
  5. Cover and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours until the meat is fork-tender.
  6. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

Serve with creamy mashed potatoes or rice to soak up the sauce. Fresh veggies make a great side!
