Description
A heartwarming smothered chicken dish coated in rich, velvety gravy, perfect for family gatherings and cozy weeknight meals.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 pieces chicken legs and thighs
- 0.5 cup oil (vegetable or olive)
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 cube chicken bouillon
- 2.5 cups cold water
- 0.5 cup milk
- 3 tablespoons seasoned flour
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1.5 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 0.5 teaspoon all-spice powder (optional)
- 0.25 teaspoon cinnamon
- 0.25 teaspoon ginger powder
Instructions
- Rinse the chicken pieces under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, and black pepper.
- Coat each piece of chicken in the flour mixture and reserve some of the flour mix for later.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and fry the chicken until golden brown, about 8-10 minutes per side.
- Remove the chicken and cook the chopped onions in the same skillet until translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in reserved seasoned flour and gradually add cold water and chicken bouillon, stirring until thickened.
- Return the chicken to the skillet, pour in the milk, and let simmer for about 20 minutes.
- Plate the chicken and generously spoon the rich gravy over each piece before serving.
Notes
Let the chicken rest after frying for extra crispiness. Adjust the spices to your taste, and add herbs for freshness.
