Description

A comforting Salisbury steak with savory mushroom gravy, perfect for family dinners and bringing back joyful cooking memories.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until well combined. Form the mixture into evenly-sized patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the beef patties and cook until browned on both sides, about 5-6 minutes per side. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and sauté until tender, around 4-5 minutes.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and bring to a gentle simmer.
  5. Mix cornstarch and water in a small bowl to create a slurry, then stir it into the simmering gravy. Cook until thickened, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Return the browned patties to the skillet, cover with gravy, and let simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes.
  7. Serve hot, dusted with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

To save time, prepare the patties in advance and store them in the fridge. You can also freeze formed patties for up to a month.
