Description

A quick and flavorful Mongolian beef recipe that combines tender beef with savory soy sauce and sweet brown sugar, perfect for gatherings or cozy dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb thinly sliced beef
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  2. Add the sliced beef and cook until browned and crispy around the edges, about 2-3 minutes. Remove the beef from skillet and set aside on a plate.
  3. In the same skillet, toss in the broccoli and bell pepper. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until vibrant in color and tender.
  4. Combine soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, and ginger in a bowl, mixing until sugar dissolves. Pour this sauce over the vegetables in the skillet.
  5. Toss the cooked beef back into the skillet with the vegetables and sauce. Stir well to combine and heat through for another couple of minutes.
  6. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water until smooth. Pour this mixture into the skillet to thicken the sauce, stirring continuously.
  7. Fold in the chopped green onions just before serving and let them wilt slightly. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

Slice beef thinly, and multitask while cooking to save time. Adjust the sweetness to your liking.
