Delightful homemade peppermint patties, perfect for holiday gatherings or an afternoon snack, with a luscious chocolate coating and smooth peppermint filling.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2¼ cups (280 g) powdered sugar, sifted
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 2 teaspoons peppermint extract
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 8 oz (225 g) semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil (optional, for smoother chocolate coating)
- Optional: festive sprinkles or crushed candy canes for garnish
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, blend the powdered sugar, butter, peppermint extract, and heavy cream until smooth and creamy.
- Shape the mixture into discs, about 1-inch in diameter, and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Freeze the discs for about 20 minutes until they are firm.
- While the discs are chilling, melt the chocolate in the microwave or on a double boiler over low heat, adding vegetable oil for a smoother coating if desired.
- Dip each chilled disc into the melted chocolate, ensuring it’s fully coated, and place it back on the baking sheet.
- If desired, sprinkle festive toppings such as crushed candy canes or colorful sprinkles before the chocolate hardens.
- Chill in the refrigerator until the chocolate is fully set, which takes about 30 minutes.
Notes
For a stunning presentation, gently tap the excess chocolate off before placing the patties back on the sheet. You can also experiment with different chocolate types for varied flavors.
