Description

Decadent black forest waffles combining rich cocoa and sweet cherries, perfect for brunch gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour (can substitute with gluten-free flour blend)
  • 1/2 cup Cocoa Powder (use Dutch-process for a deeper taste)
  • 1 tbsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups Buttermilk (milk with vinegar or lemon juice can be used)
  • 1/2 cup Melted Butter
  • 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup Cherry Pie Filling
  • 1 tbsp Powdered Sugar (optional dusting)
  • 1 cup Whipped Cream

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Stir until well-mixed.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  4. Gently fold in the cherry pie filling, distributing it throughout the batter.
  5. Preheat your waffle iron according to manufacturer instructions and grease lightly.
  6. Pour an appropriate amount of batter onto the hot iron and cook for about 4-5 minutes until crispy.
  7. Remove the waffles and keep warm in a preheated oven while repeating with the remaining batter.
  8. Plate the waffles and top with whipped cream, a dusting of powdered sugar, and extra cherries if desired.

Notes

Serve hot for the best texture and taste; you can customize with fresh fruits or chocolate syrup.
