Description
A delectable stuffing that warms the heart and soul, featuring tender bread, classic herbs, and rich broth, perfect for Thanksgiving gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 10 cups sourdough or French bread, cubed
- 1 large onion, finely diced
- 2 cups celery, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp fresh sage, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp fresh thyme, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp fresh rosemary, finely chopped
- 4 cups low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare Bread: Cut the bread into bite-sized cubes. Allow them to sit out overnight to dry, or place them in the oven at 300°F (150°C) for about 10 minutes until slightly crispy.
- Sauté Vegetables: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the diced onions and chopped celery, sautéing until softened and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
- Incorporate Herbs: Add the fresh herbs and stir for an additional minute to release their fragrances.
- Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the prepared bread cubes, sautéed vegetables, and broth. Toss until everything is evenly coated, adding salt and pepper to taste.
- Bake: Transfer the stuffing to a greased baking dish, pressing it down slightly. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes.
- Crisp the Top: Remove the foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes, until the top is beautifully golden and crisp.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding dried cranberries, nuts, or sautéed sausage. You can also use gluten-free bread and adjust the herbs to your preference.
