Description
A rich and creamy Butter Chicken recipe that combines tender chicken with a buttery sauce, offering a flavorful taste of India.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ pounds skinless, boneless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized chunks
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
- ½ teaspoon curry powder
- 1 tablespoon Greek yogurt
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 tablespoons butter (divided)
- 6 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 15-ounce can tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups heavy cream
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- ½ teaspoon curry powder
- ¼ cup freshly chopped parsley (optional, for garnish)
- Naan bread
- Steamed rice
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the chicken chunks with salt, garlic powder, sweet paprika, curry powder, and Greek yogurt. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes, or up to two hours for more intense flavor.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and sear on all sides until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Once browned, remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the minced garlic and diced onions, sautéing until the onions are soft and fragrant.
- Pour in the tomato sauce along with sugar and seasonings (salt, black pepper, garam masala, curry powder). Allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to combine.
- Return the cooked chicken to the skillet, stirring gently to coat it with the sauce. Pour in the heavy cream and let it simmer for another 10 minutes until the sauce thickens and becomes luxurious.
- Just before serving, stir in the remaining tablespoon of butter for added richness and flavor.
- Spoon the Butter Chicken over hot, fluffy rice, garnished with freshly chopped parsley. Pair it with warm naan to soak up every last drop of that delectable sauce.
Notes
Allow the chicken to marinate longer for deeper flavor absorption. Use fresh spices for the best depth of flavor.
