- 1 package store-bought puff pastry sheets (thawed)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- A splash of water or milk (for egg wash)
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
- Optional: 1 teaspoon lemon zest for a zesty kick
Instructions
- Soften the cream cheese to reach room temperature until it’s smooth and pliable.
- In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract; beat until creamy and fluffy.
- Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut into 4×4 inch squares.
- Lightly score a half-inch border inside each square with a knife.
- Spoon a dollop of the cream cheese filling into the center of each pastry square.
- Arrange sliced strawberries on top of the cream cheese filling.
- Beat the egg with a splash of water or milk; brush this mixture over the pastry edges.
- Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Serve warm for the best texture and flavor. Can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
