Ingredients

  • 1 package store-bought puff pastry sheets (thawed)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • A splash of water or milk (for egg wash)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon lemon zest for a zesty kick

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese to reach room temperature until it’s smooth and pliable.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract; beat until creamy and fluffy.
  3. Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut into 4×4 inch squares.
  4. Lightly score a half-inch border inside each square with a knife.
  5. Spoon a dollop of the cream cheese filling into the center of each pastry square.
  6. Arrange sliced strawberries on top of the cream cheese filling.
  7. Beat the egg with a splash of water or milk; brush this mixture over the pastry edges.
  8. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly before serving.
